Guest Post Black Dawn Tour

Please welcome Mallory McCartney to my blog. Mallory is the author of YA/NA Fantasy “Black Dawn”. I’ll leave the word to Mallory now, who will talk about editing process.

Guest Post

As all first-time authors, the editing process was a lovely learning curve for me! The Clean Reads team is very supportive throughout the entire process, and I can’t thank them enough for that! When I first submit my manuscript, I made sure it adheres to the submission guidelines (formatting etc.). After this it goes through three rounds with three different editors with the Clean Reads team, so every time it’s a fresh pair of eyes. This is where, with editor you go through line edits, content edits, formatting, grammar etc. This takes a couple of months, and once you complete each stage (on time! 😊 ) you go into the final look through of the book. This is where I call on my beta readers, and make any small final changes with the novel. Once this is done, it is submitted to the final stages of publication.

To me the editing stage is an amazing process, I see my manuscript go through my initial draft rewrites prior to this, which is anywhere from four to six times. To see it become a clean and final draft six- eight months later is an amazing feeling, and wouldn’t be possible without the team at Clean Reads, or my beta readers!!!

Book Review War Town

wartowncover-finalTitle: War Town

Author: Mitch Goth

Genre: New Adult Thriller

For Olly Rourke, War Town’s opening day is a joyous occasion. He is one of a thousand people selected to be the first players in the world’s largest paintball arena. But as he soon finds out, the game he enters into is far more sinister. Two equal teams, locked in the massive arena together, and presented with an armory of real ammunition and a time bomb powerful enough to kill them all. The only way out is to eliminate the other team, by any means necessary.

What is supposed to be a regular paintball game, except played in the world’s largest arena, turns out to be much more deadly. Olly Rourke, the protagonist, has to decide what he’s willing to do to survive, if the only way to get out of that arena alive is to eliminate the other team, by any means necessary. The game turns deadly and the stakes are extremely high in this fast-paced thriller.

Author Interview War Town

wartownbanner

Have you been writing for a long time?

I like to say I’ve been writing since I was five, since that was when I first development my interest in storytelling as well as my imagination. I’ve been writing seriously for seven years and have written over twenty novels and novellas in that time.

What inspired you to start a writing career?

I’ve always had an over-active imagination and I needed a way to express it, and writing is that way. My mind is constantly coming up with stories and characters and I feel like I have to do something constructive with all that. I like to say that I didn’t really choose to be a writer, I’ve always kind of been one.

Is this book a stand-alone or part of a series?

This is a stand-alone novel. I have a few novel series’ in my backlist, but War Town was a story that could be told successfully in one book, and I really hate to stretch anything out too long. Every good story has to come to an end.

Why did you choose this genre?

It’s a genre I have a lot of experience writing in. Thrillers have been my main focus in writing for several years now, and I feel with War Town I delve deeper into the genre and better both my writing and my expression of the thriller genre simultaneously.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Don’t quit, that’s the only way you’ll fail. And don’t expect instant success, because that’s just not going to happen. Often, that’s the reason why people fail. Have reasonable expectations, but always remember to dream big, you wouldn’t get too far if you didn’t do that.

9781683016823medTitle: The Adulthood: The Life & Times Series, Book 2

Author: Lori Goldson

Genre: New Adult

New from Lori Goldson, the author of the four-star rated novel Irene in College: The Life & Times Series, book 1, comes the new-adult fiction novel The Adulthood: The Life & Times Series, book 2, the follow-up sequel to last year’s debut.

With her degree in hand and college campus in her rear view mirror, 22-year-old Irene Jimenez is ready to grapple with her newest adversary, adulthood. With the help of a family friend, Irene quickly lands a job where she meets her new boss, the brilliant, charismatic, and virile Justin. Fear-stricken and paralyzed at the idea of being on her own for the first time in life, Justin’s guidance in the workplace leaves Irene intrigued to get better acquainted with her new boss, despite her current
relationship situation with her live-in boyfriend, Artie. Justin notices Irene’s inquisition, and admits his curiosity about her as well, despite his own set of personal and professional obligations.

Enjoying her work and curious about her boss, Irene finds herself losing sight of the objective, and turns to her longtime friend, Michaela, who is entrenched in her own adulthood obstacles with her girlfriend, Ryan, including a domestic dispute that pushes Irene even closer to her boss in ways that leave her boyfriend, Artie, jealous. Irene and Michaela are equally trapped in wading the waters of adulthood as they try to balance their actual jobs with their romantic desires and fears contained. Irene finds herself struggling, however, with balancing work and pleasure with Justin as her boss, and is soon placed in a new work environment where an old adversary becomes a new supervisor, and is forced to confront old emotions that she thought were buried in the past.

Book Review Song of the Oceanides

kindle-oceanides-coverTitle: Song of the Oceanides

Author: JG Zymbalist

Genre: YA/NA fantasy/steampunk

Song of the Oceanides is a quirky but poignant coming-of-age tale about children, Martians, freaky Martian hummingbird moths, and alluring sea nymphs.

The first thread relates the suspenseful tale of a Martian girl, Emmylou, stranded in Maine where she is relentlessly pursued by the Pinkerton Detective Agency’s Extraterrestrial-Enigma Service.  The second thread concerns her favorite Earthling comic-book artist, Giacomo Venable, and all his misadventures and failed romances.  The final thread deals with a tragic young lad, Rory Slocum, who, like Emmylou, loves Giacomo’s comic books and sees them as a refuge from the sea nymphs or Oceanides incessantly taunting and tormenting him.

As much as anything, the triple narrative serves to show how art may bring together disparate pariahs and misfits—and give them a fulcrum for friendship and sense of communal belonging in a cruel world

Art is central in Song of the Oceanides, a mix of fantasy and steampunk, but mostly a coming-of-age story connecting very different people through art. It’s a powerful book, one that instantly hooks the reader and makes them wonder about the characters, about their journey, and about the fictional worlds the author has created. Once I started reading, I had trouble putting the book down – considering it’s a rather large book, I had to take a few breaks, but I kept wondering what would happen next while I did.
