Book Excerpt No Quarter – Wenches

Book Excerpt

Dr. Sander Strangewayes stood at the forecastle of the ship smoking his pipe. Over the past few months, he learned never to take solid land for granted and relished the times off ship. Although his medical skills were highly valued and his shipmates were now friends, he felt his age – sixty. It was time to claim a small patch of the world and call it a day.

Red Legs Greaves stood beside him in a kilt, leaning on the rail. “There’s le Grande’s Toro and Coxon’s Dorado.”

“Such manly names, ever notice that?” Strangewayes admired the bull figurehead with sharp horns on Toro’s bow and Dorado’s horse figurehead.

“What flag are they expecting?” Mason asked.

“No flag,” Red Legs said.

“Take us in, Mr. Culliford,” Mason ordered.

Cully climbed up to the quarterdeck. “Aye, aye, Captain Mason, sir.”

“Steady as she goes, Mr. Culliford. We’re among pirates now.”

Once anchored, they took the longboats ashore. Large illuminated tents were erected among the trees and rowdy pirates roared with laugher. The meat cooking in a nearby spit made Strangewayes’s stomach growl. Ship rations were no match for a mouth-watering roast. He, Red Legs and Mason headed into the main tent.

A dancer draped in sapphire blue with a crystal in her belly button paraded by. A Nimcha sword balanced on her head while she clicked brass castanets with her fingers. She shook her hips provocatively.

“Oh, not for me, thanks,” Strangewayes said. “I just finished pillaging the eastern Caribbean, I doubt I could raise more than my drink tonight.”

Book Cover Reveal: The Wild Irish Girl

About the Book

Title: The Wild Irish Girl

Author: C.B. Halverson

Genre: Historical Erotic Romance

Audrey Byrnes doesn’t mind playing the wild Irish princess for London’s elite aristocracy—as long as they buy her novels. With her father’s Dublin theater in ruins and her sister’s illness growing worse, she’s the only person who can save her family from the gutter. As much as she enjoys the occasional passing dalliance, being the primary breadwinner of her Irish family means either marrying well or not at all.

Dr. Joseph Moorland knows it’s wrong to dress in disguise to hobnob with London’s high society, but he figures one night would do no harm—until he meets the charming and mysterious novelist, Audrey Byrnes. Too poor to marry, he hides his real identity until an accident reveals the truth, and what started as a mild flirtation turns to a complex game of secrets, passion, and desire.

Thrown together by circumstance, Audrey and Joseph find themselves in a tense alliance as they try to crawl their way up from their humble beginnings and into the highest echelons of the ton. But when one of the most formidable political players in London sets his sights on having Audrey for himself, she has to choose between saving her family from charges of treason or losing the man she loves forever.

Author Bio

C.B. Halverson is the alter-ego of Colleen Halverson, author of the Aisling Chronicles. Ever since she picked up her first bodice ripper as an impressionable adolescent, she wanted to explore the erotic female experience through writing. It wouldn’t be until much later that she allowed herself the freedom to write these sordid tales, and now she fears she may never stop. When she’s not staring out the window and dreaming up stories, she can be found trying out new Thai recipes, drinking wine with her girlfriends, or hiking through the woods with her husband and two children.

Series Description:

The adventures from No Quarter: Dominium continue with wenches! Hell hath no fury like a cross wench!

A romance novel set in 1689 in Port Royal, an era I’m not familiar with but that I enjoyed learning more about. Atia Crisp is an interesting character to read about, and the historical setting was described in such detail I could imagine myself there. Fans of historical romance will enjoy this book.

Character Interview No Quarter: Wenches

noquarterwenches

I’m hosting a character interview for “No Quarter: Wenches” today. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Character Interview

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m the widow of the pirate Rowdy Belford and I had a son who ran off to be pirate like his father. As a fem-sole, I perform laundry services to make ends meet, as a pirate widow’s pension doesn’t pay the bills. And currently, I’m looking after Boots, Dr. Strangewayes’s cat.

What is your role in the story?

I start an underground movement against the mistreatment of women and slaves.

When and where were you happiest?

In the womb, I think. Yup, in the womb was nice.

If you had one wish, what would it be?

Proper drainage. Port Royal floods a lot.

On what occasion, do you lie?

I ain’t had the pleasure of a man’s company for some time now.

Tell us a bit about the old pirating days.

In the late ’70s and early ’80s, I sailed with the Samaná Bay Buccaneers, while they raided the Spanish Main chasing a treasure galleon under the pirate Laurens de Graaf.  It was all fun and games until someone lost their eye, then their arm, and their head.

Title: Zoysana’s Choice

Author: Gordon A. Long

Genre: Fantasy

Discovered as a child living alone in the forest and growing up an orphan of mixed parentage, but under the protection of the king’s youngest son, Zoe is appreciated for her own merit by everyone, from the royal family to the lowest kitchen wench. But her secure nest is shattered by conflict in the king’s family, and soon she will have to decide where her loyalties lie.

She flees to her former home in the mountains, where she finds many answers, but not to the questions she is asking.

Then she is offered the chance to visit Kyabra, the home of her grandfather, to learn about that ancient culture.
