“Don’t make me arrest you, Autumn.” His voice low and almost growling.

I scoff. “For what?”

“The list is growing, but right now you’re the last person to see the victim alive. You’re our primary suspect. You have means, motive and opportunity.”

He’s really making a case against me. The room is spinning or am I spinning? I can’t tell. This can’t be happening. I feel sick. Sure, I hate April…hated her. Envisioned killing her multiple times, but I would never do it. I’m not a killer. I’m a healer. Surely, Travis knows that. Then again maybe he doesn’t.

Everyone in town has a motive to kill April, but who actually did? It’s the million-dollar question, one I have to prove before Travis decides to pin the murder on me.

Author Interview Murder at Midnight

murdermidnight1

Have you been writing for a long time?

I have been writing since childhood. Writing is cathartic and exhilarating.  I have always kept a personal journal.

What inspired you to start a writing career?

The books I grew up reading influenced my writing.

Is this book a stand-alone or part of a series?

It was initially written as a stand-alone but there will probably be a sequel.  I would like to bring back some of the characters in another book sometime in the future. They are like old friends of mine.

Why did you choose this genre?

My favourite books to read are detective thrillers, murder mysteries and horror stories. However, my next projects could be in a completely different genre.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Keep learning about the craft. Keep writing!

Author Interview The Deep End Tour

deependbanner

Today I’m interviewing Julie Mulhern, author of cozy mystery / women’s fiction “The Deep End”. I hope you enjoy the interview!

Have you been writing for a long time?

I got serious about writing in 2013. That’s when I got serious about learning the craft of writing – how to structure a story, a chapter, a sentence.

What inspired you to start a writing career?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. My seventh grade English teacher, Dottie McCord, inspired me.

Is The Deep End your first book?

The Deep End is my first book published, but it’s not my first book. My first book, A Haunting Desire, will release in July. It’s a historic romance set in New Orleans in 1902, complete with murder, voodoo and ghosts.

Why did you choose cozy mystery as genre for your book?

I love mysteries but am not a huge fan of gore. Growing up, I devoured books by Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Josephine Tey. When I decided to write a mystery, I used those authors as inspiration.

Frankly, The Deep End is a bit edgy for some cozy readers. Fortunately, most readers have embraced a cozy that’s a bit uncozy. Vive la differénce!

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Write, read then write some more.

Get ahold of Writing Screenplays that Sell by Michael Hauge. It’s a blueprint for structuring genre fiction.

As for the writing itself, join a critique group.

Finally, follow agents on twitter who do #10queries. In 140 characters, they’ll tell you WHY they rejected a book or asked for more. Writing needs work is a frequent reason.

Do you have any works in progress you’d like to tell us about?

Right now, I’m working on copy edits for Guaranteed to Bleed, the second mystery in the Country Club Murders series. I’m also finishing up the first draft of A Haunting Need, a second book that takes place in turn of the century New Orleans.

Hopefully in June, I’ll begin the first draft of Clouds in my Coffee, which will my third mystery.

About the Book

Author Bio

Book Excerpt

Pineapples & Alibis

“There was no answer in her room. She may be out by the pool.” The front desk clerk lowered the phone’s receiver and gestured toward a wall of windows that faced a pool, and, beyond that, the sea.

“Thank you,” Sean said.

“No worries.” The clerk smiled and flipped some papers over that she had been working on when they had approached her to call up to Meredith’s room.

Tourists, clad in bathing suits in a spectrum of colors, dotted both the poolside and the beach. It had Sara wishing all she and Sean had to do was enjoy the scenery.

The sun was beating down, the warmth all-encompassing, but thankfully, the humidity wasn’t extreme. Sara still wished to slip out of her dress to reveal the bikini she wore underneath. The thought of the rays kissing her skin was almost too much to dismiss from her mind.

She scanned the horde of vacationers and spotted Meredith lying out on a lounge chair. She sat up as if she sensed Sara watching.

“There she is, Sean.” Sara nudged her head toward Meredith.

“She doesn’t look too upset, does she?”

Sara put a hand on Sean’s shoulder. “We’re not going to assume she’s behind this.”

He stayed put. “She’s not behind this and yet she’s new to his life and he’s never gone missing before.”

“We promised on the flight we would give her the benefit of the doubt, unless something came up to convince us of her involvement.”

“I’m starting to rethink that decision.”

“If Jimmy trusted her—”

“Yes, then we should too.”

“That’s right.” Sara pressed her lips, hoping she conveyed more conviction than she felt at times—this being one of those times.

Release Day Party Christmas is Murder

Book Excerpt

Chapter 2

“Marshmallow World”

Flames were dancing in the fireplace, adding warmth to the room. The Rat Pack was crooning over the speaker system, and the snow was coming down harder than before, transforming Albany into a picturesque landscape. Maybe she should experience guilt for having everything so perfect, but in this moment, Sara simply appreciated every nuance.

Her parents had pulled their truck into the garage to protect their tree and had taken up the offer of hot chocolate she’d extended to them and the Wilsons. Her dad had to be convinced to forego his poker night but, surprisingly, he did it with little protest. It was probably because he’d rather not show than be late.

She and her mom were snuggled on the sofa in front of the bay window, while Sean and her dad struggled to get their tree upright and in place. Sara held back her amusement—for a small evergreen it came with big issues.

“Voila!” Her dad stood back, his arms flailed out, admiring his hard work.

Her mother put her hand on Sara’s forearm. “You have your tree.”

“I do.” Those two words managed to form aloud, but her emotions were tapping at the back of her jaw. For a relatively simple thing, it warmed her soul more than the hot beverage. This would be her first time celebrating Christmas with Sean.

She got off the sofa and sauntered over to him. She slipped her arms around her husband and kissed his lips, passionately, but briefly.

“I think she likes it, dear.”

She heard her dad talking to her mom and pulled back, smiling. She palmed her cheeks. “It’s beautiful.”

About the Book

christmas is murder fun Final FrontTitle: Christmas is Murder

Author: Carolyn Arnold

Genre: Cozy Mystery

Do you love Christmas and cozy mysteries?

“Christmas is Murder” is a touching–and comical–seasonal cozy. It will have you wanting to stoke the fire and top up that glass of eggnog.

Albany’s the perfect image of a winter wonderland, and Sean and Sara’s friend Jimmy is going to be Santa Claus for the upcoming Christmas parade. The trees and decorations have been selected and the gifts have been purchased. The season has truly cast its magical spell–until Sean and Sara’s neighbors die in a horrible house fire.

While the fire department ruled holiday-related hazards as the cause, Sara suspects there’s more to it. Her determination to find the truth has her and Sean toeing the line between what’s legal and what’s not.

As they sort out fact from fiction, the McKinleys make the final decision about whether or not they should open a private investigation firm.

Author Interview Romance & Revenge

romancerevengebanner

I’m hosting an interview today with Laina Turner, author of “Romance & Revenge”, a cozy mystery / chicklit book. I hope you enjoy the interview.

How long have you been writing?

I have written off an on forever but didn’t start taking it seriously until 2007. It was on my bucket list to finally finish a book and try to sell it. I accomplished that goal and haven’t looked back.

Is Romance & Revenge your first book? If not, please tell us a little about your first book.

Romance & Revenge is the 9th book in this series. My first Presley book, Stilettos & Scoundrels, was about a senator who was murdered in Presley’s hometown and she wanted to solve the murder. This book is also where she reconnected with Cooper. Someone she knew from high school.

Why did you choose to write a cozy mystery?

I like to have fun and to read for fun. I enjoy reading cozy mysteries because they are light hearted and entertaining. I just gravitated to writing the same thing.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Don’t get discouraged. This path is not an easy one and most of us don’t become overnight sensations. It takes practice and determination. Also find yourself a tribe of people who are pursuing the same goal and can offer you support when you need it.

Do you have any works in progress you’d like to tell us about?

I have the outline and start to the next Presley Thurman book which centers around Presley finding out who stole an expensive diamond brooch from one of her clients at Silk. I also am close to finishing a book not a part of any of my series called That’s Not My Suitcase. It should be out in the spring.

About The Book

23437652Title: Romance & Revenge

Author: Laina Turner

Genre: Cozy Mystery / Chick Lit

The bookkeeper at Jared’s company has been murdered and if that wasn’t bad enough someone is trying to sabotage the company by leaking company documents to other firms who are then upstaging their presentations. Jared asks for her help to find out who is trying to take Sleeping Bear Designs down and while Presley is always willing to help a friend, she is also hoping it will take her mind off obsessing over Cooper.

Presley and Cooper are on a break or are they broken up? It was never really clarified and she just found out he’s in town and he hasn’t called. Is he avoiding her? What does that mean?

Are they done for good?

Author Bio

headshot_LainaTurnerAs a child Laina thought she would either be a truck driver (thanks to Jerry Reed in Smokey and the Bandit) or work at Taco Bell (her favorite restaurant as a child). As she grew older she realized her talents lay in academics and business and for the last several years has been a business consultant and college professor where she uses the analytical side of her brain and not the side that makes up stories.

Through all her career choices she has continued to have a passion for writing. This stemmed from childhood whereas an only child she developed a vivid imagination spending most of her time making things up and thinking the Incredible Hulk lived in her closet.

Proud of her vast experiences in life from barrel racing to being on the dance team for a semi pro basketball team to being a mom of 2 amazing kids, she tells her family and friends that no one is safe from their escapades slipping in to her books.

Taking the plunge to write books that she actually lets people read in 2010, she has worked her way up to having 5 fans (maybe 6 now). Her blog, The Art Of Living Fabulously, was launched to share the daily fun in the life of a Real Housewife of the Midwest along with the musing of other fabulous ladies.
