Author Interview The Horse List

I’m interviewing Anna Lores, author of erotic romance / romantic suspense “The Horse List” today. Welcome to my blog!

1) Have you been writing for a long time?

I’ve always done some kind of writing, but it was mostly love letters and poems for a special person in my life. It wasn’t until about five years ago I decided to write some of the novels I had inside my head. I called up a reader friend and began the ups and downs of the writing journey.

2) What inspired you to start a writing career?

In 2008, I began having trouble sleeping.  It turned out I had/have insomnia. I began reading more and more while everyone else was snoozing in the house. Ideas for worlds of my own, characters, plots, subplots, and more began developing in my mind. I grabbed my son’s laptop, compelled to write. I called a friend to read my stuff, knowing she would give honest feedback. She did and that is where it all started.

3) Is this book a stand alone or part of a series?

The Horse List is the first of a three-part series about Veterinarian Ava Black’s journey to fulfill her sexual fantasies. The second book, The Horse List Challenge, is being released April, 1, 2016. The last book in the trilogy, The Horse List Unveiled, will be released June 1, 2016.

4) Why did you choose erotic romance as a genre?

I’ve always been an avid reader. I’ve always gravitated toward the love story in novels. As a young girl, I made up my own spicy backstory of the characters in The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Erotic romance is a genre with wonderful plotlines, interesting characters, and can have light to heavy blow-your-mind spicy sex in it. I love that there is every sub-category in Erotica and the possibilities for stories are endless. Let’s just say, I connected as a reader with the fabulous erotic authors out there and wanted to join them as an author.

5) Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

My advice is to write, write and write some more. Hone your craft. Find your voice or voices. Immerse yourself in your characters’ lives while you’re writing. Cry with them. Laugh with them. Put away the negative voices that keep you from writing what you want. Don’t forget that being a writer is as subjective a job as reading. We all don’t like the same things, that’s why we have a bazillion different genres, sub-genres, and authors. Find beta readers in your genre and be open to their feedback. They’re your target audience. Get a thick skin, if you don’t already have one, but not too thick. Never forget that feeling of pain, loss, heartache, joy, triumph, and love.  Those emotions let us know we’re alive, and with that, we have time left to write.

She needs an experienced partner with resources and the connections to places she’s only dreamed of going.

Could the handsome and wealthy artist Eric North be the partner she seeks? Will her drive to complete the list be enough to overcome her fear of him discovering the scars left from years of abuse? Will Eric protect her from her ex-husband, or will she go home to start over and give up her one chance to complete The Horse List?

Author Bio

Anna started writing romance as a by-product of insomnia. After a year of late night reading, she borrowed her son’s laptop after he went to bed each night, and set about breathing life to her very own characters. After a month of writing in the middle of the night, she was surprised with a new laptop of her own to pursue her dreams. With a B.A. in English Literature and a desire to fill her world with wonderful stories she and her close friends could not just talk about, but gush over, she shed her job as mom of three in the late night hours and assumed her alter ego of dirty girl.
