I’m hosting a guest post today for the book tour for science-fiction / fantasy “The Last War”. Please welcome the author, Alex Davis. I’ll leave the word to Alex now.
It’s been an interesting process getting a book out there, as someone who’s been wanting to get a book out there for so many years. It’s the beginning of a new part of my career – a career which has taken in proofreading, copy-editing, organising writing events, article writing, running a small press and teaching creative writing! It’s been a great pleasure to always be so involved in writing, and even more so to fulfil what has been a lifelong dream. To be honest at this stage it doesn’t quite feel real, even though I’m not able to hold the book in my hands and show people!
So it somehow seems only fitting that the book itself should be about new beginnings – and despite the fact it’s called The Last War, it’s very much about the start of a new life for an alien species. The Noukari are seeded on their planet, and what I wanted to explore from there was what it’s like to start from scratch. It’s very low-tech sci-fi, just the kind of thing I like to read, and what I enjoyed about the process the most was having the chance to explore a biblical-style story. The aim was always blood and thunder, origin of the species, fire and brimstone stuff. There’s religion and the conflict that goes with it
I couldn’t think of any better place to start the series, and now all the foundations are laid down I’m excited to have any amount of scope for books two and three of the trilogy. One of the greatest joys of creating your own universe is that you can then take it any number of different directions, so I’m excited to see just where this new beginning – for both me and the Noukari – will be heading!
About the Book
Author: Alex Davis
Born from the genius of the Animex, the aliens of the Noukari seek to gain a foothold on a savage planet. But the greatest danger to their existence lies within them – a powerful gift of telepathy.
As the tension grows between idolatry and admiration of their creators, and the Noukari come to understand the latent powers within their own minds, a species created for peace are about to succumb to brutal violence.
In a galaxy torn by conflict, will the first battle between the Noukari also be their last war?
“The Last War is a remarkable study of reason and faith, morality and practicality, pragmatism and idealism. With sharp, unfussy prose, Alex Davis draws the reader into an endearing nascent civilisation, and then takes it apart before our eyes. Unpredictable, challenging and rewarding.” Gav Thorpe, New York Times Bestselling author of Angels of Darkness Deliverance Lost.
