Guest Post Slumber

I’d like to introduce everyone to Cassandra Dean, author of “Slumber”, a fairytale / fantasy romance. She’s guest posting on my blog today, and I’m thrilled to have her as a guest. I’ll let her do the talking now!

Guest Post: Slumber, a Beyond Fairytale

First off, thank you to Charlene for having me. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Cassandra Dean and I write historical and fantasy romance ranging from sweet to steamy. I also play about in the eras, roaming from Ancient Rome to Victorian to the Old West and beyond. My books take readers on an emotional rollercoaster, from the lowest of lows to the joyous of highs. And, of course, my characters fall into the forever kind of love.

I’m so thrilled to share SLUMBER with you all. Part of Decadent Publishing’s Beyond Fairytales , SLUMBER is a retelling of The Glass Coffin, a variation of Sleeping Beauty. I hadn’t heard of this Grimm fairy tale before, so I googled the parameters and then set about to make my own version. The first stumbling block was how to give my heroine, Thalia, agency. In the original tale, the princess is the prize, more a plot point than a character. I must admit, I’m not a big fan of the lady only as the prize – oh no, it’s all Wonder Woman and She-Ra for me. So, I made my princess a lady who has learnt to grab life with both hands, to pursue her loves and interests with passion and gusto. Thalia was a spoiled girl when she left her home and all she’d ever known to undertake the Royal Tour, but seven years away has turned her thoughts to maturity and she is ready to become queen.

So, that problem solved, it was on with the hero. In The Glass Coffin, the hero is a tailor who gets lost in the woods and stumbles upon the princess in a coffin of glass. So, in SLUMBER, the hero became the tailor, a parliamentary position second in power only to the king. Sebastian has lied and schemed to become tailor, to erase the memory of the orphaned guttersnipe he’d been. But when he’s sent to find the princess, when her openness and honesty force him to the same, when he falls so completely for her and she for him, how can he allow himself to remember who he had been?

Thank you all for stopping by and I hope you all enjoy SLUMBER.

About The Book

Slumber_600x400Title: Slumber

Author: Cassandra Dean

Genre: Fantasy Romance / Erotic Romance

The Tailor has been tasked to find the princess…
Upon decree from his king, Sebastian, Tailor to the entire kingdom of Dormiraa, embarks on the mission to fetch the Princess Thalia home, her seven year Royal Tour over. He didn’t expect to find her working with clockwork and gears, encased within a coffin of glass. He did not expect the sight of her wild black hair to set his heart to pound, or the flash of her dark eyes would heat his blood. He did not expect he would want her so badly, not when he could never have her.

The princess must become the Queen…
Thalia has always known she must return to the capital to prepare for the throne. She did not expect her father to send the Tailor to fetch her, or that this man with his extravagant clothes and subtle cosmetics would intrigue her so well. There was something about him, something that spoke of danger and secrets, even as his wicked mouth and knowing eyes made her yearn.

However, not everyone desires the princess’s return. When they are attacked, they can only turn to each other. Will they overcome status and secrets to discover a love for all time?
