Author Interview Grant Me Tour

I’m interviewing Em Perna, the author of romance / mystery “Grant Me”. Welcome to my blog, and thanks for answering my questions.

Have you been writing for a long time? What inspired you to start a writing career?

I’d never considered myself a writer. I love to read and that’s been a passion of mine for a long time.  I’ve always been a bit of a daydreamer, and at the beginning of this past summer I decided to write down one of my daydreams.  At first it started as just a way to get my thoughts out.  It wasn’t until I was several chapters in that I realized I might actually be writing a book.  I sent what I had written so far to a friend to see if it was hogwash or actually readable, and she texted the next morning asking for more.  That gave me the extra push to finish it.  And now I have a new passion.

Is Grant Me your first book? If not, please tell us a little about your first book.

Yes, Grant Me is my first book. But not my last.

Why did you choose mystery / romance as genre for your book?

I couldn’t exactly say why I chose mystery, but romance novels have always captured my attention so I knew that was going to be the main part of it.  I can only describe it as the characters and story seemed to write itself.  And a romance/mystery novel was born.  And crazy enough…with my name on it.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Advice, hmmmm. As I’m pretty new to this I don’t know how good of an advice giver I’d be.  But I will say, that if you want it badly enough, GO FOR IT! Don’t be scared of getting your work out there.  If you are happy with it then that’s all that matters.  It’s YOUR work and you should be proud.

Do you have any works in progress you’d like to tell us about?

I have two books I’m working on.  One is the follow up to Grant Me.  The second (nameless) book features different main characters, but is set in the same setting as Grant Me.  I’m also working on another (also nameless) that is more personal in nature.  No mystery, just a good old fashioned love story.

About The Book

IMG_1204Title: Grant Me

Author: Em Perna

Genre: Romance / Mystery

Neva Mathews and Jason Grant came from seemingly different worlds. She is a tattooed, single mother of one and he is a hardboiled detective who has sworn off on relationships. But when they cross paths, attraction becomes inevitable and the two find themselves falling hopelessly and dangerously in love…

Neva Mathews

It was a dark and stormy night. Not really. More like a bright and muggy afternoon, in a grocery store parking lot, that I met him.  He was larger than the sun at that moment.  Could be because he stood at six glorious feet and five extra inches.  Or it could be because I’d just fallen to earth after slamming into him, allowing his big body to eclipse the sun.  I didn’t know it at the time, but this beast of a man would take me out of my peaceful life, and catapult me onto the roller coaster of a lifetime.  I never saw myself falling in love again, having lost my childhood love five years before.  I mean, I come as a package deal with my best friend Shelly and handsome son Drew. But meeting Grant softened my heart and made me fall for him.  Too bad he didn’t come with a warning label.

Jason Grant

I had one mission. There’s a reason I’m one of Miami’s best detectives; I always accomplish my mission. But then I met her, and my world suddenly shifted on its axis. I watched her from afar for several months.  Watching and waiting for the right moment to make my move.  Yet being around her has changed things. My blackened heart is beating again, craving this woman, making me want for things I’d given up on long ago. She reminds me of a porcelain doll. The only difference is the vivid colorful tattoos along each arm. She’s so small.  If I’m not careful, I may be the reason she breaks.
