I’m interviewing Michel Lee King today, author of women’s fiction / literary fiction “Even Hippies Get The Blues”, which releases today. We’re also celebrating the release day party with an awesome giveaway.
1) How long have you been writing? About five years. I wrote poems and short stories in school, but didn’t start taking it seriously until about five years ago. I went through a really bad patch during life when everything felt heavy and the sun never seemed to shine on me. I guess I was channeling Eeyore. So, I wrote myself out of my own situation. I gave myself another future in fiction. From there, the stories wouldn’t stop hounding me so they got worlds of their own. Now it’s a bit of an obsession and I love being the goddess of my own imagination.
2) Is Even Hippies Get The Blues your first novel? If not, please tell us a little about your first book. No, actually. Hippies is the second novel I’ve published and completely different from the first. My debut novel was Road Of Thorns and features a bloodthirsty werewolf. He hunts the women of a village in ancient Romania and one of them decides she’s had enough. Both characters have an iron will and they play a vicious game of cat and mouse across Europe. It is very dark and bloody whereas Even Hippies Get The Blues is much lighter and humorous. LOL
3) Why did you choose
young new adult as a genre for your novel? It wasn’t a conscious decision. I just started writing and my character turned out to be an early twenties woman. All of my characters seem to be in that New Adult age range where they have a lot of learning to do, but they are pretty much who they are.
4) Do you have any advice for aspiring authors? Write. Stop making excuses or finding reasons why you can’t and just put pen to paper or hands to keyboard. In truth, there is no reason why you “can’t”. There are a million reasons you can find that will prevent you from expressing yourself, but no solid block. Just write and never look back.
5) Do you have any works in progress you’d like to tell us about? My next book is skipping over the genre line again into something dark. It will be a dark fantasy take on the Little Red Riding Hood fable with a strong female character and fresh angle. I’m looking at a tentative July release for that one.

Her world of blissful ignorance crumbles when Travis, a blond paramedic with a body that can stop a truck, waltzes in to open her eyes… Just after Murphy, and his pesky law, paint a target on her back.
How many times can a waitress be interrogated in one day? Just how much orange acrylic paint can get caught in dreads before an interview? How does one retain their composure while dripping paint nude in their living room and staring down a trespassing police officer?
